Apple Cinnamon French Toast Bake

Ingrédients
  

  • 1 loaf French bread, cubed day-old works best
  • 2 apples, peeled and thinly sliced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • powdered sugar for garnish
  • vanilla glaze or powdered sugar + milk glaze optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Spread cubed bread and sliced apples evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and apples, ensuring all pieces are coated.
  • Press down gently with a spatula to help the bread absorb the mixture.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes, until golden brown and set.
  • Let the casserole cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.
  • Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with glaze if desired.

Notes

Customize this bake with chopped nuts, different fruits like pears or berries, or use brioche or cinnamon swirl bread for extra indulgence. Assemble the night before and bake in the morning. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. To freeze, wrap unbaked casserole and thaw in fridge before baking.
